Spotify Mobile on Google Android and Apple iPhone was released this week and it seems the strain has got to Spotify. It removed its invite-only restriction for new users in February but now it's reinstated it.
In a statement published on the official Spotify blog, Andres Sehr, a spokesman for the service said: "Due to the huge demand in the UK over the last few days since we launched our mobile service, we are going to have to temporarily reinstate our invite system in the UK."
We shouldn't feel hard-done-by as every other country with Spotify has invite-only barriers for new users too. Premium users can still get instant access, so stump up £9.99 if you're a newbie and you'll be straight in. If you're already signed up, which you no doubt are, you're fine too.
In the unlikely event that you're not already a Spotify user, you can still get access to the service. Friends can invite you or there's a waiting list you can sign up to which will usher you in when the wall is removed once more. Register for a Premium account and you'll get a fistful of invites to share with friends.
Have you signed up for Premium and downloaded the iPhone or Android app yet? Let us know how you're getting on. If you're locked out, why not create your own Spotify Killer?
