Sony's highly-anticipated X Series Walkman will finally hit shelves tomorrow, the company has confirmed today.

We've been looking forward to the X Series release since we first got our hands on it in Japan last year, and predicted we may well have a genuine iPod killer on our hands.

Even better, when the guys at What Hi-Fi got an exclusive look at it a couple of weeks ago, the finished product didn't disappoint.

The OLED touchscreen-packing PMP promises top class audio and video playback thanks to Sony's Clear Audio and S-master Digital Amplifier technologies, and is also the world's first media player to pack built-in digital noise cancelling tech.

Another nice touch, and one sure to prove popular with consumers, is the built-in Wi-Fi and ability to stream content from BBC iPlayer and YouTube.

We had previously been expecting to see the latest Walkman a few days earlier due to an Amazon listing suggesting availability from 10 May but it will in fact go on sale tomorrow, 13 May.

There will be two sizes available – 16GB for £209 or 32GB for £279 – and from what we've seen, we reckon the X Series may well give iPod a run for its money.

Let us know if you'll be jumping the iPod ship for the X Series below, and before you do be sure to check out our competition for a chance to win one for free.
