Sony’s constantly evolving PS3 today received a small jab in the arm to boost its defences in the fight against the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii – Firmware version 2.0.The big black box of tricks can now be turned on or off via your PSP with Remote Start. As long as your PS3 is in standby mode you can access it through a Wi-Fi connection on your PSP and boot it up, giving you access to all your pics, movies, music and the PS3’s web browser. Once you’re finished you can pop it back into standby mode, all from the comfort of a Wi-Fi-packing pub.Sick of the sight of your bland, boring menu screen? 2.0 will also let you switch themes (pictured), change the colour and brightness, and an Information Board keeps you on the cutting edge of PlayStation news. But the Sony faithful aren’t happy. Having juiced themselves up ready for the addition of in-game access to the XrossMediaBar (XMB) menu system they’re feeling a little let down. Still, at least they can vote with the SIXAXISs and turn their PS3 off from Starbucks. That’s got to be some consolation, surely?Essentials PS3 Firmware 2.0 Price: £free On sale: Now Contact: Sony Related stories: Easiest PS2 modchip.
