Sony’s come up with a nifty solution for photographers stuck with a full memory card or stuffed camcorder hard-drive – two ‘PC-less’ DVD burners.

The DVDirect VRD-MC3 (above) and video-only VRD-VC30 will both plug into your camcorder and burn footage straight onto a DVD for you to archive or send off to mates.

The inputs mean they can connect to virtually any tape, DVD or hard-drive camcorder, and another clever trick is the ability to hook up to a DVR or old-school VHS recorder, so you can decant TV programmes onto disc.

Digicams aren’t totally excluded from the party either – the top-range VRD-MC3 also has slots for the five most common memory cards (SD, xD, CompactFlash and both standard and Duo versions of Sony’s Memory Stick).

Unlike its poorer cousin’s 2in monochrome screen, the MC3 also has a 2.5in screen for navigation, but is likely to demand a much greater wodge of notes from your piggy bank.
