The update will simplify the interface and improve performance, as well as giving better search. The update will be rolled out to all Sony Internet TVs and Sony Internet TV Blu-ray players. It’ll also boost compatibility with smartphones and tablets, including the iPhone and iPad.

To accompany the update, Sony has introduced a new remote control that has a QWERTY keyboard on one side, and a simplified button layout on the flipside that surrounds a multitouch trackpad for pinch-to-zoom and easier web navigation and text input.

Sony also reckons it’s cracked the problem of low-res YouTube vids looking blurred on big-screen TVs with new image boosting tech that digitally enhances web videos on the fly.
