Sony outlines Jelly Bean updates, but ignores old Xperias
Sony has listed the devices that will be getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean officially, and it's bad news if you had it on your Christmas list
The good news is Sony has started talking about Jelly Bean. The bad news is you’ll have to wait until 2013 – assuming you get the update at all.
Sony’s latest devices, the Xperia T, TX and the forthcoming V will get a bellyful of Jelly Bean from mid-January 2013. Slightly older smartphones like the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will get Android 4.1, but there’s no word on timing. Our guess is some time after January.
If your Sony smartphone falls outside that list, you’ll have to make do with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The company evaluated whether it was worth upgrading its 2011 product range and concluded that, sadly, it was not.
A bad day to be a Sony fan, then, but an excellent one if you own a Samsung Galaxy S3 as the phone has just started its Jelly Bean rollout.
