Sony has finally announced a movie download store offering hundreds of downloadable movies for PS3 and PSP owners – that's the news just in from the Sony Gamescom conference in Cologne.

We’re promised “hundreds of movies straight to your PSP and PS3” from big-hitter studios such as Lionsgate, Paramount, MGM, Walt Disney, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. Movies will be available in both HD and standard definition, and can be purchased using the usual wallet system.

Fans of blockbusters such as Crank 2 and The Dark Knight will be able to acces this content in November, with rental lasting 14 days. Apparently, "further specifics for viewing times will be announced closer to launch of the service".

If you shell out for a Playstation movie for keepsies, they'll be stored on the PS3 hard disk and can be transferred to PSP for viewing on the go.

September will see the launch of a new area called What’s New in Playstation Network where, as well as viewing recently uploaded content, there'll be a quick link to iPlayer content, so you can feast your eyes on Eastenders and Strictly Come Dancing.

Elsewhere on PSN, there’ll be a new gamespace for Singstar  including interactive elements such as music quizzes, video jukebox and interactive jukebox.

And, er, lovers of Audi will be able to access Audi TV content in the Home cinema, and they are set to launch a proper space before the end of the year.

Keep it peeled for more Gamescom announcements as they happen…
