You may have already pre-ordered your premium PS3 but that’s not enough for Sony – oh no, it wants you to get the whole shebang and match it with this LCD and PVR.
To be fair, there won’t be better HD screens on which to view the majesty of the PS3’s graphics than the KDL-46X2000U – it’s the first model from its X Series that is capable of displaying 1080p signals.
Seeing as Sony reckons every game on the PS3 will be in this ultimate flavour of HD – a claim Microsoft has apparently scoffed at – the 1920x1080 panel should provide an unrivalled viewing experience for games like Gears of War and The Getaway.
It looks ideal for non-gaming action too – there’s two HDMI inputs, leaving one spare for your Sky HD box, and it’ll apparently even boost standard-def signals by four times thanks to the Bravia engine’s trickery. The integrated Freeview tuner will also sort you out for E4 and BBC Three.
It’s a bit early to be thinking about recording programmes onto Blu-Ray discs, so Sony’s come up with an alternative – the SVR-S500 recorder on the right.
The 80GB box is a Sky+ style number, with all the usual time-shifting functions – pausing and rewinding live TV – and two Freeview tuners, so you can watch and record simultaneously.
