It seems that Sony could be planning to make its mark on the tablet computer market, after one of its bosses expressed the company's interest in the emerging sector.
When asked about Sony's stance on tablets during a news conference in Tokyo, Sony's CFO Nobuyuki Oneda answered: "That is a market we are also very interested in.
"Time-wise we are a little behind the iPad but it's a space we would like to be an active player in."
While Sony was rather late to the traditional netbook market with the W Series, it appears it doesn't want to be left behind in the tablet craze following the iPad's in March. Could we be seeing a Sony tablet sooner than we think?
No products were mentioned, but Sony did say it would be launching a number of mobile products come October that will be built around network-based services.
This will include a new online service to bring music, movies, games and ebooks the company's TVs, PCs, Walkmans and e-readers.
