Sony Ericsson isn't the first firm to skin its own interface on top of Google's Android OS (the HTC Hero does that) but it's forthcoming Rachel UI looks stunning.

Possibly named after Rachel, Deckard's android love interest in Blade Runner - see what they did there? - the interface should make its debut on the next phone in Sony Ericsson's XPERIA line.

The new device is rumoured to have 7.2Mbps HSDPA, an 8MP camera with auto-focus and 3D acceleration to make the graphics really fly. But it's the interface that's got us excited.

Making use of a full touch screen, contacts float past as calling cards with large pictures and links to Twitter. Music gets the same visual treatment with album art in a carousel. With plenty of social networking widgets - including ones for Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm - and apps for Wordpress and Typepad,  Rachel could vie for the iPhone 3GS's crown as mobile blogging tool of choice. We'll have to wait until later in 2009 to find out.

What do you think? Does Rachel look like she might win your heart? Or does another phone still have a hold on your affections? Let us know in the comments or debate away in the forums.
