Sony has slashed the price of its LocationFree kit to £200, a staggering £150 less than the original price it announced a month ago.

There’s been no official confirmation from Sony yet but it is expected to make an official announcement later today. Online store Play.com has already listed the box for £200.

The decision is a response to the arrival of its telly throwing rival, the Slingbox, which has gone on sale in PC World for £180.

Sony’s box is certainly better-looking in the flesh than the Slingbox and, unlike its rival, it also offers Wi-Fi so you slot it into your home network.

Look out for an official update on the price here soon and a head-to-head test between the two in our September issue, out on 3rd August.
