With the megapixel battle finally starting to settle at around the 7MP to 10MP mark, it seems that optical zoom is now getting some long-deserved attention.Fixed since time immemorial at a bog-standard 3x, newer models are starting to sport 7x and even 10x zooms. So far Sony's tentatively brought out the 5x zooming T100 but now it's gone one further with the budget-minded S800.Part of the 'value' S range, it offers a 6x Sony lens for what we're hoping will be not much dosh – though we haven't been given actual price details yet.It sports 8.1MP with a 2.5in LCD and a battery good for 390 shots. The budget billing is revealed by the fact the glasswear isn't Sony's usual Carl Zeiss optics and by the lack of Super Steady Shot to keep the lens steady. We'll hold our verdict until we see that price tag.
