Capable of hitting the road and still staying in one piece, the Vaio G11 is tough and lean with plenty of steam.Sony's slimmed it down to a lettuce munching 1.12kg and applied the same strict diet to the normally bulky power supply, trimming it to a mere 170g. That brings the combined haulage total to just 1.3kg.With everything on board, including the DVD-RW drive, there's no need to lug any external extras. Just don't expect to be watching movies in widescreen on the 12in TFT – this one's a more business-friendly 4:3 ratio. Inside there's a battery-sipping, Ultra Low Voltage 1.33GHz Core Solo U1500 processor, 1GB RAM and 100GB hard disk.To bulk up the featherweight girth, the body gets a carbon fibre laminate shell that'll take the knocks without adding weight. Sony reckons it'll withstand a pavement-bound tumble from up to 90cm. HDD technology also kicks in during the freefall to park the disk drive heads, preventing them from skidding all over your data.Further enhancing its travel credentials it'll manage nine hours between charges – enough for a quick hop Stateside and some minor airport lounge surfing besides. No firm release date yet but expect to find one clocking in near you in the coming weeks.
