While smug 3 X-Series users are able to make cheap calls from their mobiles with their own Skype client, those of us on other networks have had to rely on the likes of Netgear's cheekily titled, Wi-Fi iPhone for our mobile Skype kicks. But not any more. While we wait patiently for the first network-agnostic mobile Skype client, Skype Pro peeps can now enjoy a new service: Skype To Go.Enter an expat mate's number on the Skype website and it'll give you a second, local number to call as a proxy. We tried it out and were given a Birmingham number to call our pal in New York. A quick 0121 and seven other digits later and we were chatting Stateside for Skype's 1.2cents/min rate. It's still routed by VoIP so the quality gets a little ropey at times but it’s a lot cheaper than calling direct. The number's also permanent so can be used for future calls from any mobile or landline – which is pretty handy seeing as we get free evening and weekend calls on our home phone.Sadly it'll only work with one number at a time, but you can change it once a week. Now, what was that guy's number in Tuvalu?EssentialsSkype To GoPrice: Free with Skype Pro ($3/month)On sale: NowContact: SkypeRelated stories:Gadget of The Day – Linksys iPhoneBecome your own premium chat lineSkype goes mobile with 3
