Yesterday Sky launched its Sky By Broadband movie download service – but that wasn’t all. The TV giant also announced another free service for subscribers to it sports and movies packages called Sky By Mobile.

Though not quite as revolutionary as Sky By Broadband, Sky By Mobile is pretty impressive, delivering all the latest news stories from Sky Sports and Sky News, including live scoreboards and fixtures, plus 200-300 videoclips every week. The service also features weather forecasts, celebrity news and betting, all controlled through an easy-to-use interface reminiscent of Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide.

Sky By Mobile is available on all networks, but you’ll need a compatible GPRS or 3G handset - you’ll find model details on the Sky By Mobile website. While Sky makes no charge for the service, you will have to pay standard data fees to your network.

The service also works hand-in-hand with Sky’s Mobile TV streaming service, launched last year on Vodafone and expected to be available on other 3G networks from May. The Mobile TV packages will, however, require an extra subscription after the introductory free period ends at the beginning of February. You can find our previous story about Sky mobile TV here.

Finally, Sky is promising that within the next few month’s you’ll be able to use your phone – or the web – to set your Sky+ PVR to record remotely. About time, too – don’t they realise how forgetful we are?
