Lamppost-related injuries among Vodafone’s 3G users look certain to rise this weekend; it’s offering mesmerising live Championship playoff and test match coverage on its Sky Mobile package.

Starting with the Leeds vs Preston semi-final first leg tonight, the service will screen 100 hours of super-tense promotion scraps and the more sedate pleasures of England’s test matches with Sri Lanka and Pakistan over the next month.

It’s the first time live matches in the UK have been shown simultaneously on mobiles and TV, and the service could be a lifesaver for anyone who’s been booked to visit the in-laws for the playoff final on 21st May.

You’ll be able to get the matches on your mobile – such as the lovely N70 above – by subscribing to the Sky Mobile TV News, Sports and Factual Pack, which also includes Sky News and National Geographic docs and costs £5 per month.

The new addition shows Vodafone finally bagging content that lives up to its service’s Live! moniker – it recently added live ITN news and weather to its ‘variety pack’, which costs £3 per month (story here).
