Sky Go Extra to launch within days

First service to offer downloadable telly and films to your smartphone and tablet to arrive in the coming week

Sky Go Extra – the service that lets you download films and TV shows to your smartphone or tablet to watch offline – is to launch this week, according to The Telegraph.

Costing £5 per month, the app’ll give customers access to their downloads for a month at a time, on top of the on-demand streaming already offered by Sky Go.

The service will be Wi-Fi only, but it’s doubtful anyone not on a 4G network would bother trying to download big video files anyway. And the usual qualms about Sky Go’s compatability with Android devices is also likely to rile some would-be users.

We’ll update when we get a more solid brief on the launch.
