Some people might consider £12,000 the sort of money to put down on a house. We, on the other hand, would splash it in ostentatious fashion on this decadently high end SIM2 projector (pictured above).

You might be wondering what justifies the Grand Cinema HT3000’s price tag. So were we, until the folks at SIM2 reassured us that the reason is a mighty good picture.

It is, at least, capable of executing the highest of hi-def standards – 1080p – which is still something of a rarity in the kingdom of projectors and flat TVs. It also has a seven-segment colour wheel, which should banish any nasty red or green edges around your favourite action hero/heroine.

To help you plug your future PS3 and current Sky HD box in simultaneously, there are a pair of HDMI inputs. We’d have liked three so we could stick in a PC or DVD player too, but then we’d like the moon on a stick.

Also new today from SIM2 are the Grand Cinema HT305E, a mid range HD Ready job at a cool £5K, and the Domino D35 - the budget option at £3,000. These two ‘cheap’ affairs are out now; the HT3000 will thunder into shops by the end of next month.

SIM2’s site is over here, though it holds no info on these new lightboxes yet.
