Not sufficiently annoyed by window displays? Just wait until this Christmas, when the first of Samsung's transparent LCD displays should be gracing grottoes across the planet.
We've been promised transparent screens in the past using fancy new OLEDs but this is the first time a manufacturer has demonstrated such a large display (it's 46in) or one using cheaper LCD technology.
The screen apparently has an LED backlight unit at the top of the sheet of glass and uses some clever optical widgetry to prevent the light from spilling out the sides.
The effect is pretty stunning - responsive, photo-realistic images appear to hover in mid-air, but without obscuring the goodies being hawked by retailers inside. Mmm, anyone care for some two-dimensional wine?
