Electric cars? Glorified golf buggies, right? Well cast your eyes over to the left. This decaled monster is an SUV with a difference – it's powered entirely by electricity. No petrol sipping Prius-style hybrid motor here, just pure battery juice – lithium-ion to be precise. Which is why Phoenix Motorcars’ creation can top 110mph and manage 0 to 60 in under ten seconds. An overnight charge plugged into a standard mains socket gives 250 miles of emission-free driving. Others have steered clear of lithium-ion because of its laptop-destroying properties but Phoenix reckons it’s solved the problem by switching flaky graphite anodes for inert ones. This apparently gives all the benefits with none of the pitfalls (are you listening Sony?). Anyway, we hear petrol can be quite explosive too.Lucky Americans can order these now for delivery next year, sadly, there’s no sign yet of a right-hand drive version.
