Despite Asus’ dinky EeePC (pictured) already selling like the proverbial oven-fresh cake, the interweb is abuzz with whispers of a brand spanking new little lappy to partner it.
Over-excited techies have been getting their Ethernet cables in a twist over the thought of an announcement at tech paradise CES in Las Vegas next week. Rumour has it that a brand new 8.9in incarnation of Asus tiny web wanderer will grace the show floor with a memory boost and full-on Windows XP.
Now, we don’t like to relieve ourselves on anyone’s chips, but we’ve had a word in Asus’ shell-like and it seems EeePC MK II is still some way off yet.
What we will see at CES, however, is a US-only partnership with mobile network Sprint to bring super fast WiMAX mobile broadband connections to the standard EeePC – a nice late Christmas present for our friends across the pond; not a lot of use for us limeys.
If it’s a brand new version of the EeePC you’re after, then you’re in for a bit of a wait. We’re told ‘new variants’ will be with us in June. If that’s a bit too vague, we’re meeting with top Asus bods over at CES in Las Vegas. We’ll be poking them with sharp sticks and calling them names until they tell us more, so keep your eyes on Stuff.tv.
