Seems incredible, but the VW Beetle is now 70 years old. From its early beginnings as a Nazi vision to the cutesy Love Bug and onto classic status, the Beetle’s come a long way.
Few cars, if any, have such a cult following, so the birthday bash is going to be messy and ongoing throughout the year, but the celebrations start at the VolksWorld Show on 29-30 March, at Sandown Park, Esher.
VolksWorld magazine is promising the greatest collection of air-cooled VWs from all around Europe, including restored and customised Beetles, Camper Vans and Beach Buggies.
As usual, there’s also a load of silliness to balance out the smell of engine oil – like Bug Stuff, where as many people as possible are jammed in and on a beetle, trying to beat the previous year’s record.
