Sanyo's SD card swallowing Xactis have been growing in our estimation and remained alluringly petite throughout. The latest addition to the midget family is a budget 'corder aimed at those still shooting in standard def.

It's looking a little podgy round the edges but that's apparently a feature - to make it easier to grip, Sanyo says. Love handles on gadgets, eh? Whatever next?

Eschewing the abilities of its HD companions, it only shoots lowly VGA res but it does manage a silky 60FPS for super smooth footage and has a proper 5x optical zoom.

Digital image stabilisation’s on board too, though it's not a patch on the optical kind, and there's a reasonable 2.5in screen.

Not much to write home about but then Sanyo does say it'll be pricing it 'aggressively'. Could be just the thing for a stocking filler (yes, we're already making lists).
