Like an intake of Oxford’s finest new graduates, laptops are throwing open their arms to Intel’s new dual core processors – this new duo from Samsung are the latest super-powered notebooks to arrive in the UK.
They’re not the first lappies on these isles to sport the processors – that honour’s already gone to Rock’s Xtreme 64 [story here] – but they are among the sleekest we’ve seen.
The more business-focused X60 on the left qualifies as a featherweight at just 2.4kg, and supplements its 1.6Mhz Core Duo with a strong features list. This includes an 80GB hard drive, a 15.4in WXGA display, and fine connectivity in the form of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It should also go for a very respectable five and a half hours off a single charge.
If you’re after a more multimedia-friendly slab of mobile computing, the 60GB R65 is a strong candidate for employment. It has the same dual processor – which improves performance by splitting computer tasks into two data streams, if you wanted to know – and backs it up with built-in 3D speakers, a feature called AVS Now for one-button access to DVDs and a 15in display.
Both are available now via www.samsung.co.uk – the X60 goes for £1060, while the R65 is £1175.
