Samsung Galaxy S4 to launch on March 14th

Amid the noise of Mobile World Congress, Samsung hints it’ll be dropping its big news at a private event next month

Samsung has announced its spring Unpacked event will happen on 14th March in New York. Last year, Samsung used the event to unleash the mighty Galaxy S3 – and this year we are firmly expecting its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The even – titled ‘Samsung Unpacked 2013 – Episode 1’ – reads ‘Ready 4 the show: come and meet the next Galaxy’. And veils don’t come much thinner than that.

That means we have lesss than a month until we see what Samsung is bringing to the 2013 smartphone top table, an exclusive club whose guests include HTC’s gorgeous One, Sony’s magnificent Xperia Z, BlackBerry’s return to form with the Z10 and Apple’s yet-to-be-announced iPhone 6. It also means Samsung is likely to drop its Roman numeral nomenclature – denying us all the opportunity to call the S IV 'the Galaxy sieve'.

Plus there’ll be plenty of new hardware from MWC 2013. We’ve already seen Huawei shoot out of the gate with its widely leaked Ascend P2 – and the show has barely got under way, with LG expected to make news within hours.

Get 14th March in your diary and we’ll see you then as we liveblog our way into the next generation of Samsung Galaxy smarphone hardware.
