This rocking chair knits hats while you kick back

Turn that unproductive rocking into cozy wooly hats with this crafty chair from ECAL design students

Not content with creating the Oncle Sam single kernel popcorn machine, students from Swiss university ECAL have found a way to make use of all that wasted kinetic energy from a rocking chair.

As you rock, the ingenious chair sets a series of gears in motion, knitting you a lovely beanie hat in the colour of your choice.

It may not be quite as tech-savvy as the iRock rocking chair – which charges your iPad as you rock – but you do get a hat at the end of the process. Clearly, rocking chairs are set to be the discerning gadget fan's furniture of choice.
