Say BlackBerry and you immediately think of drained businessmen scrolling through endless messages, all paid for on an obscenely high business tariff by The Man. But if RIM has its way, their ubiquitous workaholic mobiles could soon be going pay–as–you–go.
Boy Genius Report has managed to pick up some rather salacious internal docs which show plans for a 'BlackBerry in a Box' service, Rather than fronting up for the phone then buying credit, punters can buy a phone and package from the start, without paying monthly fees.
A regular PAYG service is also said to be in the works, with the aim of getting every mobile mail maniac fondling a BlackBerry. Not just those with a power complex and a fetish for overpriced tailored suits.
Word is that this will be RIM's big launch for 2009. With the BlackBerry Storm already targeting regular gadget fanciers as well as businesses, it certainly makes sense. You're more likely to see it on cheaper cells like the Peral Flip, but that doesn't mean we're not keen to get in on the action.
