It's got several months (well, nearly a year and a half actually) of catching up to do but PS3 has made a record-breaking start in the next-gen console war.Launch figures suggest Sony sold twice as many of the black boxes than Microsoft managed with its Xbox 360 on the weekend of its arrival way back in December 2005.Analysts, Chart Track, reckon it shifted a massive 165,000 units compared to the 70,000 Xbox 360s scanned through the tills during Microsoft's first two days, making the PS3 the fastest-selling UK console ever.Of course, Bill Gates and co took the approach of rushing their console to the shelves, severely restricting the numbers available at launch. Sony, meanwhile, took a more 'leisurely' approach and still has plenty of stock knocking around in its warehouse to meet demand.Still, don't expect it to pass up this opportunity for a spot of gloating. Just remember console watchers, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
