It's an emotional day for us in the Stuff office. Today PlayStation, a legend in the gaming world and a console we have nurtured (and occasionally scolded as well) since its baby steps in 1994 turns a whopping 15 years old. Oh, they grow so fast...

Yes indeed, a whole fifteen years ago today, Sony launched its PlayStation console, and became the new kid on the block in a market that was, at the time, more frequented by the likes of Nintendo and Sega.

Launching to huge sales, the PlayStation 1 proved that newcomers could make it in the rather cliquey games industry, and was of course followed over the years by two more incarnations, not to mention a skinny version of each as well.

In the past 15 years, it has become one of the most successful console brands going, and throughout both highs and lows, it has ridden the wave despite an influx of Wii-loving casual gamers and big competition with Microsoft's Xbox consoles.

Now with both the PS2, PS3 Slim, PSP and PSP Go on the shelves, it's been some ride and we thought it only right to mark its birthday by looking back at some highs, some lows and some downright funny moments.

So be sure to check out all the PS-filled goodness we have coming for you over today, such as the 15 best PlayStation games of all time, the 5 wackiest tales from the PS3 launch, 5 crazy PS3 rumours and the history of PlayStation.
