It was, of course, a nice marketing line for what was just another CPU, but it now seems Sony has developed technology that might live up to the name.
Sony has applied for a patent on technology that will allow the PlayStation 3 to read player's emotions using a camera and microphone.
There's no hints on how Sony plan to use its 'emotion detection' technology but it's not hard to imagine games livening up the action if players look bored.
It could also make for some creepy moments where your PS3 intimiates HAL, the deranged computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perfect for a remake of System Shock or for the return of Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid.
Any ideas for other uses for emotional recognition in games?
