Philips has launched its first LCD with an angelic full surround backlight to help soothe your poor squinting eyes.
The 42PF9831D – a 42in affair with 1366x768 pixel resolution – projects light from all four sides of the display, which apparently improves contrast and reduces ticking offs from your optician.
There’s also a wealth of other cool sounding proprietary tech on board – ‘Clear LCD’ claims to improve motion-blur and black level performance, while the new Pixel Plus 3 HD should aid the high-def picture processing.
While we’ll have to wait to test these claims ourselves before drawing any hasty conclusions – although Philips Ambilights haven’t disappointed us before – its top connectivity is beyond doubt.
There’s two HDMI ports (for your Xbox 360 and Sky HD), an Ethernet port for connecting to your PC, a USB port for loading up your photos and a 7-in-1 card reader.
If you’re yet to receive your Sky HD box, there’s also an integrated digital tuner to give you an emergency selection of Freeview channels.
The top of the range 42PF9831D is available now for £3500 – head over to Philips’ site for info on where to get one.
