In the spare time it gets after making new Ambilight LCDs, Philips likes to unwind by making micro hi-fis like this neat new cube-based system.

It may not be a wireless wonder like the company’s Streamium range, but the MC108 deals in old-school charm, offering CD playback via its three identically proportioned cubes.

The 150mmx200mm speakers can pump out a reasonable 4W each, and the system also offers an FM tuner and an alarm to help shake off bedhead.

We’re still confirming the UK price and availability of the MC108, but it promises to be just the first of a new range of tiny hi-fis, which will include a new Micro DVD Theatre, to be introduced next week. We’ll be at the event to bring you all the news.
