Skype and DECT is clearly the home phone killer combo. So at last year’s IFA when Philips took the wraps off the world's first Skype-certified DECT phone that worked without having to be hooked-up to a PC we were pretty stoked.Unfortunately for Philips it was beaten to the shop shelves by RTX’s own Skype/DECT combo, the DualPhone. But now, finally, Philips is ready to unleash the original VOIP841 on the phone-buying world.Coming in at twenty quid more than the RTX it's going to have a hard time convincing us it’s worth the extra, but it’ll have a stab with a super clear speakerphone and healthy 12-hour talktime.Like the DualPhone the Dutch dog ‘n’ bone has a colour screen and will make and receive both Skype-to-Skype and Skype Out calls without a PC in sight. Instead the base unit hooks up to your broadband modem and quietly logs itself in.Thanks to DECT, standard landline calls (remember them?) are no problem and it'll gloriously roam around the house with ease. It'll be out for eager phone savers from next month – better late than never, eh Philips?
