Dad's head's cut off, the flash is in the mirror and grandma's eyes are closed. Another classic for the Stuff family album.

While Pentax's 8MP Optio V20 can't help you with the first two blunders, it can do something about the third.

It's the first cam to get Blink Detection. If your subject decides to shut an eyelid as you snap, little V20 will analyse any closed peepers and report back immediately - giving you enough time to retake the picture before everyone shuffles off for the vol-au-vents.

As is the vogue, it also gets face detection, to keep mugs in focus, and the same 'smile detection' we first saw on Sony's CyberShots - ensuring no split-second, gap-toothed grin is missed.

Round the back there's a roomy 3in display and up front a healthy 5x optical zoom, but without any wide-angle, which would have been handy for group shots. No optical wobble-reduction in there either, just the inferior digital kind.

Still, we don't expect it to be too pricey - the V10 it replaces goes for a measly £130 on the high street and this has been given a $280 (£140) price tag in the States.
