It's Wired and Time magazine's gadget of the year and it looks like it might soon be available in the UK. The Peek email-only GSM handheld is this year's surprise must-have gadget - a slim $80 (£52) gadget that lets you, well, peek at your emails on the move.
The $20 (£13) monthly fee includes unlimited emails from up to three of your existing accounts, free text messages and soon instant messaging too. But there's no web browser, no camera, no MP3 player and definitely no phone.
Stuff chatted with Peek CEO Amol Sarva, who said that the aim was to create a 'fundamentally easy to use' device for the 85 per cent of people who don't currently have a way to send and receive email away from their computer.
Sarva said, "You can buy it off the shelf and by the time you're in the parking lot typing in your email address and password, it works."
He also let slip that the GPRS gadget could be coming to the UK in 2009, where he expects the free texting offer to go down extremely well. "We've had 100s of inquiries in the UK. Even the most savvy texter would find our keyboard far superior for texting."
