Panasonic has revealed its latest range of rough n’ ready, hard-as-nails notebook PCs. The 7-Series has been designed with the outdoors folk in mind, as well as Astronauts exploring Mars… We’d like to think, anyway. The CF-W7, CF-T7 and CF-Y7 can each take a fall of 76cm – the average height of a desk, says Panasonic – and a pressure of up to 100kgf. That rules out jumping on it but you should be fine stepping on it. By accident. They come with a bespoke drainage system that Panasonic says will protect the keyboard, touchpad and other unmentionables within the PCs from up to 200ml of liquids. For us that would be 200ml of tea.Otherwise, the 7-Series is like any other mortal notebook PC with each of them sporting Intel Core 2 Duo chipsets. The CF-W7 packs in a1.06 GHz Intel processor, 1GB of SDRAM, 80GB hard drive, OS Windows Vista Business, 21.1in touchscreen, battery run time is seven hours, Bluetooth, SD card slot and DVD multi-drive. The CF-T7 is the same, except it doesn’t have a DVD drive. Sadly. The CF-Y7 is almost identical to its W7 brother, except it’s got a 1.6GHz Intel processor, a 14.1in touchscreen, a DVD drive, but only five hours of battery life. The 7-Series crashes into the UK – through a burning fence, off a tall building while on fire – in early November.
