Show us a new smartphone and we’ll inevitably get excited about what new super functions they’ve managed to cram in. Wi-Fi? That’s old news. HSPDA? Now that would be good. But a 3G-lacking, pathetically equipped new Treo? Are you having a laugh, Palm?Damp squibThe new 680 is supposed to get us aroused with its new Palm operating system, 64MB of on-board memory – pah, we’ve seen historical memorabilia with more memory than that – and an amazing 312MHz of processing power. Which, frankly, is rubbish. Although we used to love Palm, we just can’t see why you’d plump for this newbie over, say, a Blackberry or the Nokia E61. The Blackberry’s better for email and the Nokia E61’s got a nicer interface with hotter software. It’s not all bad though. The battery is good for four hours' talktime, or 300 on standby, so you’ll have more time to play with all those, erm, exciting features before it runs out of juice.
