BBC Worldwide has announced its first mobile content service in a deal with Orange that will let you stream video clips, buy wallpapers and download ringtones from some of its flagship programmes.
The available content is fronted by some of the Beeb's biggest comedy characters in recent years, including David Brent from The Office, Vicky Pollard and Daffyd from Little Britain and the cast of The League of Gentleman. There'll also be some classic clips from the Doctor Who archives available too.
Launched today, the service on Orange World lets you download clips and ringtones for under £1 and buy wallpapers like the David Brent dance. The BBC is hoping to add some newer and more varied content over the coming year, and is likely to announce deals with other networks soon.
It's also another symbolic example of auntie's drive towards distributing its content across different formats to take on those pesky pirates. Last year it admitted to getting a 'wake up call' when the first episode of the new Doctor Who was leaked online before it had been aired, which prompted the development of its Integrated Media Player or iMP. More info on this and its other services can be found here.
