Operatic browsers to make your mobile sing

If you find browsing on your mobile a tad frustrating, step it up a few gears with Opera’s new browsers

Opera has cottoned onto our need for faster multi-faceted net-surfing on our mobiles, and has come up with two new versions of its web browsers: the Mini 2.0 which runs on almost any mobile, and the 8.60 especially for Symbian Series 60s.

We’ve had a play with the Mini and we’re impressed. It stands out from other browsers: it’s faster, with a display that lets you fit more goodies on the screen (like page tabs, pictured above), and a multisearch so you can select extra search engines from the home page.

Internet shopping’s a doddle too. Just click on the site you want to buy content from – say a ringtone or a game – and it’ll be delivered to you as an SMS.  The charge will be set by the seller and appear on your bill as an SMS.

The Mobile 8.0 for S60 is designed for Symbian 9, S60 3rd Edition phones – think Nokia 3250 and E71. It’s super fast thanks to nifty auto-completion of web addresses and passwords. It’s clever too, and can open and toggle up to four windows at once, each with its own personal settings.

The new browser will also refit web pages to the width of your mob’s screen or, if you’d prefer, make the page look as it would on a PC.

To get your hands on the Mini 2.0, direct your mobile phone’s WAP browser here.  The Mobile 8.60 for S60s can be downloaded here.
