At first it was just a grainy picture. Then it was a few vague details. And now it’s a full spec sheet that’s bound to have Steve Jobs sitting up and taking notice.Yep, the Nokia Tube (or 5800 Tube to give it it’s full title) has become the biggest gadget story going, with a constant drip drip of info since Monday. But beyond the 3.2MP camera, 3G and haptic touchscreen, the fact that’s really caught my eye is it’s release date. Sources say Nokia is preparing to out it this very summer, not Q1 2009 as first rumoured. What’s more, it’ll arrive before a 3G iPhone, with the aim of knocking some of the wind out of Apple’s sails.Surely it’s no coincidence that all this info has hit the web a week after every gadget hound on the planet went berserk for 3G Jesus phone news. All that 60 day talk and leaked images must have sent Nokia into overdrive.Until we get our hands on both devices, we can’t say which is top of the pile. For my money, the iPhone will win out. But seeing as the Finns are said to be planning a far more hefty 5MP toting N series touchscreen to go mano–o–mano with Apple later this year, things are really about to escalate in the high–end mobile wars.
