Nokia might be getting ready for some Symbian S60 Touch action on the soon–to–be–outed Tube, but it seems more of their blowers could be getting a slice of Linux instead.

According to Reuters, the mobile makers want to drop the open–source OS onto their cells. Linux can already be found doing its thang on Nok’s internet tablets.

So what, you’re probably thinking. But this is good news if you’re cash–strapped and a bit sick of Symbian’s rather ropey interface.

Nokia reckons by slapping Linux in its new phones, punters won’t have to pay as much and will get a slick new UI. Seeing as Google has already used the OS to build Android, which looks sharp as, Nokia could soon be shaking off its fusty image for something far trendier.

There could be some phones packing the tech coming as soon as this summer. Keep everything crossed gadget lovers.
