Much as we like to mooch about record stores searching for elusive tracks, we'd rather do it from the comfort of our own Wi-Fi connection. So bless Nokia's little rock socks if it hasn't gone and linked up with the world's best vinyl dens to bring us an online store with a difference. In alliance with establishments as far flung as New York's Fat Beats, Berlin's Hard Wax, Tokyo's Mona Records, and Rio de Janeiro's Modern Sound, it sets out to find music that would otherwise never find its way into your tracklist. After tapping in our eclectic music tastes (more indie rock, less hip hop, a sprinkling of electronica) Music Recommenders got to work at dusting off some lesser known tracks. A quick browse down its shortlist turned up Datarock's Fa-Fa-Fa as recommended by Holloway Road's Pure Groove store. They say: 'You can smell the funk emanating from your speakers'. We say 'add to basket'. Ditto Hot Chip's Over and Over unearthed by Dublin's Abbey Discs with the honest description: 'I have to admit that I didn't get this band when I first heard them but I have really grown to like their electronic dance sound. Give them a go.' We did and we liked.Strangely it doesn't seem to have a mobile portal so music phone fans will have to transfer via their computers just like everyone else.
