NFC Barclaycard PayTag unveiled that works on all phones

Get your wireless payment on without needing to splash out on a new phone

Barclaycard has announced PayTag, a wireless payment system, that can be used on any mobile phone – even non-smartphones. It's certainly a step up on the PayPal Here reader.

PayTag is basically like sticking the wireless part of your Barclaycard to the back of your phone – not so elegant. You can then scan it to pay out up to £15 (£20 from June) in shops like Eat, Boots, Tesco and more that make up a total 100,000 locations that are growing to 150,000 by the end of the year.

That time, the end of 2012, will be when the PayTag is available to all Barclaycard customers. Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later so we don’t miss the boat on the wireless Olympics where this payment method will be used a lot.

Barclays – without a hint of irony – assures adopters that if lost the card can be easily cancelled, over the phone.
