News Nugget – iOS 4.2 hits the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

After a few false starts, Apple’s update arrives. And iPads get iOS 4.x for the first time

That means tableteers are now party to folders, unified email inbox and Game Centre, as well as a handful of other nifty UI tricks (such as a soft screenlock button in the dock).

iOS 4.2 will also give iPhones a boost, adding AirPlay and AirPrint wireless device syncing for over-the-air streaming and printing to AirPrint-enabled printers.

Find My iPhone – a feature that used to cost you a MobileMe subscription – has become free, and lets users find missing phones or lock or wipe data.

We haven’t made the jump yet, but it ought to also fix the alarm bug that’s affected repeat alarms since the end of BST, and turn the iPad’s portrait lock switch into a mute switch. Confirm in the comments if you’re already there.

The update is available today via iTunes and is for all current devices and iPod Touches from late 2009 onwards.
