Four thirds fans have waited a long time for a replacement to the pro E-1 but now Olympus has taken the wraps off its new top dog, the 10MP E-3.Boasting 11 twin cross sensor points – two more than Canon's 40D – it promises the fastest autofocus times of any DSLR when combined with its new Zuiko Supersonic Wave Drive 12-60mm lens, which gives a handy equivalent range of 24-120mm.The Gonzales performance doesn't quite stretch to the burst speed, which tops out at 5fps. That's slower than its Canon, Nikon and Sony high-end rivals, which all now go to 6fps or more.It makes up for it with in-body image stabilisation, dust reduction and a unique foldout LCD complete with LiveView for lining up awkward angle snaps using the screen as the viewfinder. Now the only question that needs answering is: whatever happened to the E-2?EssentialsOlymus E-3 body only, with Zuiko SWD 12-60mm lensPrice: £1100, £1600On sale: November Contact: OlympusRelated stories:New Olympus E-3 DSLR arrives tonightLong-awaited Olympus DSLR lands next monthOlympus unwraps new DSLRs
