Its touch screen and stylus were always PDA-esque, and now the Nintendo DS has added handwriting recognition software to its quirky features list.
Nintendo's deal with Zi Corporation for its Decuma software means that handwriting recognition could now be worked into new games.
It could also be handy for lengthy notes on PictoChat, not to mention the raft of imminent titles featuring DS wireless play such as Mario Kart DS, which is due out next month.
There's no official word yet from Nintendo on how the software will be used in games, but they're likely to be puzzle based affairs similar to the 'brain training' series which include drawing and writing tests. We'll stick to the Grand Theft Auto on the PSP for the minute, thanks.
