BenQ says the DC X600 and DC C500 are the thinnest and lightest cameras in their class, respectively. The DC X600, which bears a serious resemblance to the Pentax Optio S2, is 19mm thick. (The Optio S2 is also 19mm thick, which makes BenQ’s claims look pretty thin.) It has a 3x optical zoom Pentax SMC lens, a six megapixel sensor and 30fps MP4 movies.
The DC C500 weighs just 80g with its battery, but it doesn’t have a zoom lens. It does have a five-megapixel sensor, and a 1.7inch LCD. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we estimate that the DC500 will be a tiddler in the pricetag stakes.
The DC C500 will be out in October; the DC X600 in November. BenQ also announced a third camera, but the eight megapixel C800 won’t be sold in the UK. There are currently no details of any of the new cams on BenQ’s website, but that could change.
17th October UPDATE: the C800 will be £150 and the X600 will set you back £200
