As the saying goes – if you can’t beat ‘em, set up a new music download website with ‘em – and that’s exactly what Coca-Cola has done.

The now defunct mycokemusic will get a new name and a new best friend when it teams up with Apple’s iTunes to become Coke Music.

Launching in Europe on the 9th August, Coke Music aims to give a step up to unsigned acts in the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The party will kick off with a number of gigs in the four countries, with live tracks and video podcasts from the shows available to download from the site.

Members will be able to upload their tracks to the site, a la MySpace, in the hope of becoming the next Arctic Monkeys or Lily Allen. Whether the world needs another Lily Allen or Arctic Monkeys, however, is up to you.
