MusicTiles app puts Peter Gabriel's hits in your hands

Make your own version of Gabriel's hits – even if you're not much of a muso

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Peter Gabriel's album So he has released the MusicTiles iOS app for iPhone and iPad which allows fans to remix songs from the album.

Songs from the album include Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes and Big Time, but the app also features three versions of each song in a new style such as electronica or industrial.

Developed from a concept by "RoboProfessor" Henrik Hautop Lund, the MusicTiles app lets you play around with the arrangements in Peter Gabriel's tracks, giving them a whole new feel.

We haven't had a chance to try it for ourselves just yet, but from the video it looks extremely easy to mix up the tracks, simply flicking around tiles which represent parts of the track.

However while it seems to always come up with something musical (perfect for the novice dabbler) it does look quite abstract in operation, meaning that a real muso might find the lack of fine control frustrating.

MusicTiles will set you back £1.99 on the App Store, Extra song bundles are £1.49, except the So album bundle which costs a princely £9.99.

Check out the slightly odd video below in which Professor Lund explains how you can make your own versions of Gabriel's tracks.
