Remember the excitement of making your first video call? Okay, us neither, but things could be about to get much more exciting in the world of mobile video.
Motorola's promising to show off the latest in 'Long Term Evolution' or LTE, its preferred standard for 4G, at next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Among the treats in store for 4G are live HD video. Moto reckons the bandwidth - which, at up to 100Mbps, is far faster than most home broadband connections today - will be capable of relaying HD footage back to people watching TV at home. In a sling box stylee, it'll also work the other way, piping HD TV to handsets.
The reduced lag should also make online mobile gaming a synch, and VOIP by mobile will finally be crystal clear too.
Course, there's no word when we'll actually be able to buy 4G handsets but predictions are that some countries could have it as soon as this time next year. Time to emigrate.
